Anyone else in the midst of false Spring1? We had a warm snap here that has been a serious relief BUT I know that many cold days and weeks still await me. And I’m facing those cold days with dread because I’m just so sick and tired of my closet. Every so often I will put together and outfit and think “YES! This is good!” but, more often, I’m not getting the fully-body-yes from my clothes that I want.

It’s all too easy to turn to shopping in these dark (and cold) times but may I offer an alternative? What if you took the money you would have spent on a new shirt that promises that feeling of fixing everything and put it towards a quick session with a personal stylist?

It was with this in mind that I messaged

Reva Luft

and said “please help!” Reva’s style really resonates with me because she manages to look comfortable but put together; stylish without trying too hard. Above all else, Reva really focuses on wearing what you have instead of buying new stuff.

It felt important to me to talk to someone whose outfits look similar to mine because I was self-conscious about opening up my closet. Reva and I were able to talk in brand names that we both buy and wear. We had 60 minutes and it was a fun whirlwind . We put together 29 outfits (23 that I’m saving for future wear)! In 60 minutes! Less than that because we chatted for a few minutes first!

Here’s what’s most impressive to me; the looks I’m keeping used a total of 24 pieces including shoes and accessories (the only thing missing from the below graphic is a vintage velvet jacket that I couldn’t find a comparable for). Warning: anyone who knows me will tell you I wear A LOT of black so you are going to see that reflected here.

white shirt ($30) // black shirt ($30) // grey long-sleeve ($17)* // black knit ($325)* // navy knit ($145)* // black blazer ($100) // black cardigan ($158) // pendant necklace ($100) // beaded necklace ($18)* // suede jacket ($305) // leather jacket ($400)* // black denim ($98)*// blue denim ($98) // white denim ($138) // silk pull on ($198) // trousers ($300)* // striped pants ($184)* // bucket bag ($258) // Studded belt ($88) // sneakers ($100)* // red flats ($210)* // mules ($695)* // black ballet flats ($505)* // boat shoes ($380)* ALL ITEMS MARKED WITH * I ACTUALLY OWN, EVERYTHING ELSE IS APPROXIMATION (all items here)
