The edits you made to that minimalist outfit were 10/10 (not that it wasn’t also chic before!). that visual is what made the concept click for me- I’m into this midimialism thing 😏

Right?! When I see an expressive minimalist outfit I like it but when I get dressed myself I need a little more umph!!

I’ve actually seen the term midimalism used lately as it relates to interior design but never thought to apply it to fashion and now I’m sitting here reading this like DUH this is so brilliant xx

Interestingly I realized that my interior design style follows a similar trajectory. I feel like I can extend the concept to A LOT in my life because I'm a girl who likes to live in the grey area ;)

Finally got to read this and it snapped so many things into place. Not just the concept behind Midimalist (which, yes), but the whole way you build clarity around instinct. It made me realize how much of your writing is about precision in thought, not just style. I’ve been deep in my own rabbit hole around friction, proportion, and mood-driven dressing, and this gave me a totally new anchor point. Filing this under “required reading” for anyone trying to make sense of their own style POV.

Asta, I’m blushing!! Thank you for saying that. I find- so often- that I have to write something and then distill it so it’s a little easier to read and then distill it again (and again).

Yessss! I much prefer your edited black look, but always kind of put myself down like I was making it too childish and really I *should* be Brittany bathgate lolllll

Expand full comment
Kelly Williams's avatar

Ha! Bathgate is a perfect reference for minimalism that feels hard to pull off! Like I WANT to dress like her but when I replicate an outfit it just falls flat!
