As someone who is not on Instagram (though I do my fair share of stalking my favorite influencers there), I have found my favorite places for style inspiration come from Pinterest and YouTube (I’ve already spoken about!). And YouTube really proved the power of it’s algorithm recently when it recommended me this video;
The channel is by Johnny Agnello and it’s called Starlinc and for months he has been making the most addictive videos walking up to people on the streets of New York City asking what they are wearing (as well as a few other questions). Johnny’s not the first person to do this but I found him first so now I’m particularly found of his straightforward videos and the subjects he picks. I have since watched street style videos from other creators that are either too long OR they only talk to people with fashion but no style.
I have spent hours watching Starlinc videos and, now, NotSoBlonde1 videos from Paris. And even after hours, I still want more. I am MORE inspired watching these videos than I could be scrolling endless feeds on Pinterest or social media like Instagram or TikTok. When I was previously on Instagram, I used to love accounts like ParisiansinParis and these videos are bringing those photos to life.
I especially like hearing from the wearer of the clothes where they get their inspiration (a shocking number say their MOM!) and hearing how they are mixing high-low brands. Plus, by not explicitly linking to the exact product, there is more creative freedom to recreate a look.
This man had the most classic outfit with a sweater tied around the waist that made it have a little extra something.
Talk about another high-impact and easy to pull-off style! I loved the layers on this girl and they way her headphones feel like an accessory.
I invite you to start watching the videos and to be inspired not to go buy exactly what the individual is wearing but to recreate their vibe. I am most struck but the number of people who are saying they are wearing something they bought consignment/vintage or even borrowed from a family member/friend. The outfits I find most least inspiring are found on influencers where are the pieces are shiny, new and readily-accessible.
I love starlinc videos I get so much inspo
