How To Make Your Fall Wishlist
Plus tamping my overconsumption (which feels counter to my headline)
One of my major struggles as a fashion-lover and online-shopper is the overconsumption patterns that I find myself. Even when just looking to Instagram/TikTok/Pinterest for sources of inspiration I still fall prey to feeling like my life would be fixed by just… one… more… purchase. I tend to be attracted to influencers who are in their 30s+ who are recommending higher-end brands (I’m often in an echo chamber of Khaite, The Row, Toteme, etc.). I also personally struggle with the ethics of fast-fashion (as I think many of us do) and so I’m trying to be a thoughtful consumer of second-hand or more sustainably-minded or small-business, etc.
All of that to say, I think there are a number of us shoppers feeling the same way and looking for ways to be mindful. One tip that I loved from a TikTok I watched earlier this summer (I can’t recall who it was!) is the simple idea of keeping track of what you purchase.
I started a note in my phone where I put a screenshot of every recent purchase I make and then I try to keep a loose track of how often I’m wearing each piece. Not only does it help me visualize what is coming into my closet (like the time I bought 3 pairs of shoes in 6 weeks) but also holds me accountable to being honest about what I’m actually wearing.
Here are my best purchases so far from the summer;
