Braindump 004
Part 2 of the Alphabet Game (N-Z)
Happy Midimalist Monday! I have some very fun styling posts in the works that I can’t wait to share with you all soon.
Since it’s the last week of summer break with my kids; I wanted to finish the second-half of my Alphabet Game Braindump (first part here) in their honor since it’s our game with each other. It was really fun to think about my life (what I’m reading, listening to, buying and being- generally- inspired by) in terms of the alphabet. There are some letters I wouldn’t mind skipping over but, on the whole, this was fun.
I hope you enjoy!
N is for New (to You) Clothing
A few weeks ago an amazing Midimalist reader (shout out Anna!) came to me with a brilliant idea and I’m excited to try a Midimalist Clothing Swap! This idea after I spent a few weeks borrow these incredible pants ($598) from a friend, made me excited for the closet matches we could make with each other!
So as you are cleaning out your closet and finding items that you are ready to part with, what if you send them along to a fellow Midimalist reader?! You can add them to this spreadsheet I made here. I’m hoping to take the next week or two and allow the spreadsheet to fill up and then I’ll announce in an upcoming newsletter (hopefully August 18) when the spreadsheet is open for claiming items.
Once that time comes, people can put their email next to items to claim them and then it’s between the giver and receiver to exchange emails with shipping info. You do not have to be a giver to be a receiver! I was thinking the receiver could also pay for shipping but that’s the only cost involved.
There’s a column for questions/answers so if you like an item but have any questions, we can trade details there. I’m positive I’m missing details in this process but we are going to trial this and see how it goes.
One request I have; please only request an item that you will love and cherish for yourself or a friend. Don’t claim someone’s item and then turn around and resell it (please!).
O is for Old School
Like any parent who has read Anxious Generation I am invested in modeling healthier habits with my smart phone for my kids. So I was very intrigued when my friend sent me this TikTok;

Enable 3rd party cookies or use another browser
I didn’t hesitate for even one second before buying one of these phones! For those who didn’t watch the video; this woman made old school corded phones that connect to up to 2 smartphones via bluetooth. So when your iPhone rings, the corded phone rings! The phones are on pre-order so I’m not supposed to get mine for another 2 months but I am so excited. Plus, now my kids can learn so many of the things that I learned growing up like answering the phone “Hello, Williams residence” or (hopefully if I can convince others) calling their friends and asking “Is So-and-So home?”
P is for Proportions
The beloved stylist, Allison Bornstien, now has a very fun column on The Cut and I really loved her answer to a style question in this piece.
If you see an outfit photo you like and want to copy it, that’s great! But you should adjust the proportions accordingly. Since you’re petite, try mid-rise jeans instead of high-rise jeans like the pairs in your inspo photos.
As someone with a shorter torso the idea of trading my high- rise jeans for mid-rise was something I never thought of before, but it would allow a top to take up more space, proportionally! Similarly, buying cropped shirts or tailoring them to be shorter and achieve the proportion of inspirational photos!
I saw this photo in an email from Kallmeyer just yesterday and I noted that the shorts photographed are MEANT to sit at hips and extend just below the kneecap. So if I wanted to recreate the proportion I would need lower rise denim or size up so it sits at my hips. I would also probably need tailoring to get the proper length.
